Communications Officer Volunteer

The volunteer will help the Policy and Communications Manager to coordinate and deliver internal and external communications across the Trust.

This role is ideal for someone who is looking to get more experience in a communications/journalism field. Or for someone who has already worked in journalism and looking to utilize their skills in a volunteering role.

You will be working in the Policy and Communications Team which at the forefront of influencing the public and political agenda in the East of England and in Westminster on all things related to disabled people. With a number of exciting projects, including Brexit, accessible housing, disability employment and social care all currently forming part of the workload, there is lots to get involved in.

Key Tasks

  • Draft tweets and facebook posts
  • Monitor social media
  • Draft emails for internal comms
  • Draft article for internal newsletter
  • Field calls from journalists

Within this role you will be have:-

  • Excellent verbal and written skills with a keen eye for detail and accuracy
  • High level of organisational skills
  • Good knowledge of the national, regional and political offline and online media (including social media).
  • Have the ability to translate complex information for different audiences.
  • Have the ability to work under pressure and manage different priorities

Volunteers will not be engaged in “Regulated Activity” as defined by Schedule 4 to the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act 2006 (as amended). This includes assisting people with personal or health care, and undertaking activities with children that are not supervised by staff.
