In December, he was very surprised when staff informed him that he had over the past year walked over 100 miles with staff at OWL.

“I knew I could do it,” was Chris’ joyful response.

Supporting service users with accessing their community and improving their fitness and health are important aspects for the OWL Centre.

Weekly fitness sessions are held at the Sawston Sports Centre, at the OWL Centre and other community spaces in Cambridge.

The Sawston Sports Centre is very supportive in offering space and staff to assist people with disabilities in the community.

Chris began walking to and from the Sports Centre with OWL members to get some extra miles.  During the summer, he began running a mile during his lunch break.

Chris says that walking “makes me feel fit and gives me energy” and fondly remembers walking with his father at the pier in Hunstanton.

This year, he hopes to walk 200 miles, take part in the Sawston Fun Run in May and walk to new places as well as some of his favourite spots - Anglesey Abbey and Wimpole Hall.
