Papworth Trust’s Museum Street Centre in Ipswich enables disabled people to try new things in a fun and friendly atmosphere, so they can develop confidence and new life skills.
The centre teaches nationally recognised qualifications in Literacy, Numeracy and IT, as well as offering a range of creative and developmental opportunities like art and cooking classes, gardening and work experience opportunities.
We are currently looking for volunteers to support our disabled clients in a range of sessions. The main focus is on improving Literacy, Numeracy and IT skills, but if you could be adaptable and help people in other classes that would be great!
Your support will enable learners to achieve nationally recognised qualifications and to help increase their confidence and life skills.
Tasks will include some or all of the following:
Support the tutor with helping a group of about 8-14 learners to gain skills in Literacy, Numeracy or ICT.
You will support people with their learning and understanding, helping them to meet the requirements of their Open College Network courses.
Help learners to have positive learning experiences, thus increasing their motivation and confidence.
There may be opportunities to help design action plans that will enable learners to achieve their targets, if you would be interested in this.
Personal qualities required:
Good communication skills – able to explain tasks in a variety of different ways to suit individual learners needs, and able to listen effectively.
Friendly, Supportive, and Enthusiastic
Patient and reliable
Able to follow instruction
Because we are teaching nationally recognised qualifications you will need at least Adult National Level 2 understanding in English and Maths (which is equivalent to GCSE grades A*-C).
- Prior experience working or volunteering with disabled people is desirable but not essential
